Amy J. Behling
Amy Jo (Niedermann) Behling, a mezzo soprano, began singing as a child inspired by her sisters who sang at East High and her mother who performed in the Honolulu Symphony Chorale. She was chosen to solo in a musical in 5th grade at Fairview School, RPS. She began flute at Lincoln and performed for nursing homes and weddings.
Her past choirs include Belvidere High School, Mount Mercy College, St. James-Belvidere, Tippi Chorus Tippecanoe Cty Extension IN, St. Bridget, Mendelssohn Chorale, Bach Chamber, and as a guest at St. Thomas More at Yale with her daughter. She has sung with many elementary students over the years as their teacher. Amy cantored for three years for St. James and St. Bridget Catholic Churches. She performed in pop recitals at Brat Days two years under Valerie Brandt Soetermans of STAGES and opera recitals at Mendelssohn for three years under Beth Fredrickson. In 2011 she performed the National anthem for the Rockford RiverHawks. Amy loved the summer the Bonzi's cast her in the chorus for The Wizard of Oz and her son as a lollipop kid. (She hopes to play Glenda for their next performance.)
In 2016 Amy sang with Harlan Jefferson's program at East Bank and Independence Village, and she has sung with Hip Pocket at Poison Ivy Pub. Amy started Karaoke Open Mic Rockford facebook page as a public service. She will be leading the sing-along at the Mendelssohn Organ Concert on Dec 19 of this year. Amy is hoping to continue with R & B lessons and gain her vocal music endorsement to teach in the schools. She is looking for a full-time teaching position in special education and is currently a substitute. Just this November she auditioned and was selected to attend IN Industry Network performance training for acting in advertising.
